Proximity Sensor Manufacturers in Mumbai: Buying From the Factory

Search for a proximity sensor manufacturer in Mumbai and most of what you find is directory listings for traders. Here is how to tell the difference, and what buying from the factory changes.

Search for proximity sensor manufacturers in Mumbai and most of the first page is directory listings. Many of the companies behind them are traders and stockists rather than manufacturers, which is a perfectly legitimate business but a different one, and the difference matters once you need a variant, a certificate, or the same part again in four years.

Accent Controls has manufactured proximity switches in Mumbai since 1985. Our factory is in Vikhroli West, on LBS Marg. This page explains what buying from an actual factory changes, and how to check that whoever you are talking to is one.

How to tell a manufacturer from a trader

Three questions settle it quickly, and you can ask them of us as easily as of anyone else.

Ask to visit. Not for a photograph of a building. Ask whether you can come and see the line. A manufacturer treats a plant visit from a serious buyer as routine. A trader finds reasons. Being in Mumbai, this is a short trip for most buyers in the region, which is itself part of the argument for buying locally.

Ask for a variant. Request a non-standard cable length, a different connector, or a specific housing detail. A manufacturer quotes it with a lead time and a quantity threshold. A reseller explains why the catalogue option is better for you.

Ask what standard the product is built to. For inductive and capacitive proximity switches that is IEC 60947-5-2, which defines the standard target, the sensing distance tolerances and the switching frequency. A supplier who cannot name it, or who quotes a sensing distance without saying whether it is rated, effective or assured, is telling you something useful.

What being in the same city actually changes

You can come and see it. For a plant standardising its sensor holding, or an OEM designing a sensor into a machine, an hour at the factory settles more than a week of emails.

Delivery is a production question, not a shipping one. There is no ocean freight leg and no customs clearance sitting in the critical path. For a breakdown that matters more than anything else.

Support happens in your time zone. When a sensor behaves oddly on a Tuesday morning, the engineer who can explain why is reachable on Tuesday morning.

The part stays available. Imported ranges get rationalised and distributors change. On a plant with a twenty year life, that is the risk nobody prices in at purchase and everybody meets later.

What we actually make here

The Mumbai factory produces the full proximity switching range:

  • D30C inductive in M8, M12, M18, M30, M36 and M50, from 4 mm to 30 mm sensing, in NPN and PNP, normally open and normally closed, short-circuit protected
  • D32C capacitive for plastic, liquid, powder, wood and glass
  • D31C photoelectric in diffuse, retro-reflective and through-beam, to 20 metres
  • D33C magnetic, including speed and direction variants
  • D20C NAMUR for intrinsically safe and hazardous area duty
  • A20C AC two-wire for retrofits into older panels with no DC supply
  • Control units and amplifiers to complete the loop

Alongside that we are the sole authorised distributor in India and SAARC for Novotechnik of Germany and Contelec of Switzerland, for linear and rotary position measurement. One enquiry covers both, which is useful on a machine that needs twelve proximity switches and two position transducers.

If you are not in Mumbai

Most of the above still applies. Domestic manufacture removes customs from the critical path wherever in India you are, and variants, documentation and support work the same way from Chennai or Coimbatore as from Chembur. The plant visit is simply easier for those nearby.

Starting a conversation

Tell us the target, the distance, the body size your mounting allows, the output your controller expects and the environment. If you are replacing something, the old part number and a photograph of it in place will usually be enough. Our guide to evaluating a sensor manufacturer sets out the checks worth running on any supplier, including us.

Need a price, a drawing or a stock check?

Send us the part number, or just describe the application and the target you need to sense. We will come back with the right model, a dimensional drawing and a quotation. Accent Controls has built proximity switches in Mumbai since 1985 to IEC 60947-5-2.
